Who this calculator is for

Use this if you live in Canada and you receive Old Age Security, or you expect to. It helps when your income is near the clawback line and you want an estimate of the recovery tax.

The result is not a tax assessment. The CRA and Service Canada decide the amount you repay.

How the OAS clawback works

If your net world income is above the yearly threshold, you repay 15% of the amount over the threshold. The repayment cannot be more than the OAS you receive. The Canada Revenue Agency takes it off your monthly OAS cheques from July of the next year to June of the year after.

Example from canada.ca: income of $100,000 in 2025, threshold $93,454. $100,000 minus $93,454 is $6,546. 15% of that is $981.90 to repay from July 2026 to June 2027.

Frequently asked questions

What is the OAS clawback threshold for 2026?

For OAS paid from July 2026 to June 2027, the clawback is based on your 2025 income and starts at $93,454. For July 2027 to June 2028, it is based on your 2026 income and starts at $95,323. The upper limits for 2026 income are still estimates on canada.ca until later in the year.

How much is the OAS clawback?

15% of your net world income above the threshold, up to the full amount of OAS you get.

At what income is OAS fully clawed back?

For 2025 income, canada.ca lists $152,062 for ages 65 to 74 and $157,923 for 75 and over. The exact point depends on OAS amounts during the year, so this calculator's estimate can differ slightly.

Does the clawback use household income?

No. It uses your individual net world income. Pension income splitting can move income between spouses and may lower one person's clawback.

Is my OAS pension counted in net income?

Yes. Net world income includes the OAS pension itself.

Is this calculator official?

No. It is an estimate. Your notice from the CRA and Service Canada is what counts.

When is the OAS clawback taken off my payments?

The Canada Revenue Agency takes it off your monthly OAS from July of the year after the income year, through to June of the following year. Income from 2025 changes payments from July 2026 to June 2027.

How do you calculate the OAS clawback?

Subtract the yearly threshold from your net world income. If that amount is above zero, you repay 15% of it. The repayment cannot be more than the OAS you receive.
